Flower Color Meanings

Do you know what message your flower color conveys?

Same as flowers has their own meaning, their colors too. Each flower color has a meaningful story behind their color.

If each kind of flower has a meaning, then each flower color also has one. Symbolism and representation of flower colors can be traced back in history and up until now many people believe the meaning of each color. This is the reason why there are individuals who are very particular in the flower and color that they choose for a bouquet and other floral arrangement especially if it will be used for an important occasion. Here are the flower color meanings that we have gathered:

Red is the color of love and passion. One bouquet could have several themes of flowers, from fillers up to the main blossoms, in order to achieve the desired effect and capture the look that they want to have.

There are four main flower themes and each has different kinds that are frequently used. Spring flower is a theme that comes into bud during cooler seasons. These flowers need a freely drying soil with a balanced amount of moisture and heat. Another theme is called the rose flower which has diverse types of species that are by and large thorny shrubs, climbers and trailing plants. Normally, rose flowers grow from two to five meters in height although there are some species that can reach 20 meters. Tropical flowers, an additional flower theme, came from plants that survive during dry weather. Most of the tropical plants develop in temperate regions for the reason that humid conditions allow them to grow. The last theme is described as rare and extraordinary. Exotic flowers are unusually looking flowers which grow in the wild. Arrangements that make use of exotic flowers lasts longer that any other flower themes.

There are a lot of techniques and strategies that can be employed in floral arrangements. Combination of flower themes or a unique selection of each class could result to brilliant and striking presentations which mainly depend on the florist’s taste. What is important is to determine the purpose that the arrangement will be serving so that you can choose the best blend of perfect flowers.
...

Read Full Topic at: Flower Themes

Perhaps one of the best known and most loved garden flowers is the rose which came from over 1,000 different kinds. Roses are shrubs with woody stems that can grow up to 15 feet or 4.5 meters.

Rose flowers can be classified into three main classes – bush roses which includes modern kinds of hybrid teas; shrub roses which includes several groups of wild species; climbing roses which includes ramblers, trailing and everblooming rose. Bush roses are planted in garden beds. Shrub roses have different bud colors except blue and black and this kind also has smaller flowers. Climbing roses are made to cling to fences, arches or trees.
Spring Flowers - FlowerMeaning.org

Spring Flowers

After the coldness of winter, when the sun is ready to shine, spring flowers will already take their posts. Brilliant colored flowers and beautiful little plants give brightness to our surroundings. But did you know that taking care of spring flower bulbs is just as easy as one, two, and three?

There are several factors that must be considered like planting time, types of soil, positioning, watering, feeding, etc. Spring flowers must be planted if the time of year already has a cool weather because the soil will be best for growing the bulbs. It is important that the soil’s moisture is just enough so that it will not be soggy and squelchy and like any other plants, sufficient sunlight is highly needed so that the flowers will develop strongly. As for feeding and watering, special bulb fertilizers may be used during the first stage and then followed by general fertilizers while watering should start when green shoots already appear. When flowers already start to become visible, it is vital to continue feeding and watering so that the leaves’ will be able to generate food which is necessary to produce beautiful and attractive flowers. Another essential aspect that was mentioned earlier is the positioning of the plants inside the pots.

It is imperative to place the bulbs at the center of the pot and keep it away from the edges because this is the part that absorbs heat and stores it. So for the best possible results, it is advisable to follow the suggested guidelines in planting spring flowers.

Some popular spring bulbs are:

Tulip bulbs

Crocuses

Daffodil's

Irises

Hyacinths

...

Read Full Topic at: Spring Flowers

Wild Flowers - FlowerMeaning.org

Wild Flowers

A wildflower is a flower that is able to grow independently, in a natural environment without human assistance. Wildflowers grow and bloom without a seed, and are found in many regions of the world. Each continent has indigenous species, and some also have species that have been introduced from other continents. The first are called "natives", the latter are referred to as "naturized", the common element between the both is they can grow unaided.

There are over 20,000 species of wildflowers growing in America belonging to more than 300 different families. The species are identified by their colour, the shape of the flower and it's geographic origin.
All flowering plants, including wildflowers, are called Angiosperms. These flowering plants appeared suddenly and miraculously 80-90 million years ago, and today they are the most abundant plant on earth.

During the Middle Ages, research was carried out that that identified over 6000 species of Angiosperms, some of them being wildflowers. From the 17th to 19th centuries there was a boom in botany research and more species of plants and flora were classified. One of the famous works was carried out by Charles Darwin who produced Origin of the Species however many other botanists also conducted research on American wildflowers.

In the 1900s the English and Europeans developed a fascination with growing these flowers of the wild. This interest developed primarily from wealthy people who were accustomed to having their garden maintained, and could afford to experiment with new ideas. One of the famous works written in this time was written by Gertrude Jeckyll who encouraged the idea of growing the wildflower in a natural environment.

Today there is a strong interest in growing wildflowers, so much so that it is possible to buy them in packs of seed mixture.

Uses of Wildflowers

For centuries the American Indians used American wildflowers for medicinal purposes, and their practices have been adopted by western practitioners and herbalists. Of the 20,0000 species growing in America, 10% of them are used for medicinal purposes. The Indians used wildflowers to cure a range of different illnesses.

While it was the American Indians who were experts in the use of wildflowers for medicinal purposes, one English physician and botonist, William Withering, also discovered that American wildflowers could be used medicinally.
